Hi, I’m Danielle
I’m so glad you’re here!
I launched Citrine in 2024 with a mission to help women fulfill their ambition without losing their health and personal life in the process because, it’s a story I personally know all too well.
There have been very few professional goals I haven’t achieved
I have a law degree; owned a law firm for 10 years; been an adjunct law professor for 4 years; became the first DEI director for my state’s bar association; led a civil rights investigation division with an annual budget of $700,000; became a deputy city manager overseeing a budget of $5M (with an additional $6M of collective spending though my direct reports); and became the the first woman of color Executive Director over my state’s largest non-profit, pro-bono law firm with five offices, approximately 200 employees, with 18M in annual revenue. I accomplished all of this by the time I was 48 years old.
But Things Weren’t Good Under the Surface
I was stressed all the time and not handling it well. I gained weight over my career, having let the sports and activities I loved go the waste side. When I wasn’t short tempered at home, I would have total break downs. I was exhausted and resentful that no one could see how exhausted I was. I was pissed because I listened to all the advice and did all the things I was supposed to do to be happy, and most of my career I was unhappy. I rarely got together with friends. And then….
I Know What It’s Like to….
feel lost
overworked, exhausted, and emotionally, physically and mentally drained and unhealthy
constantly feel like you have to prove yourself
resentful that you did all the things, but you’re not any happier; in fact your more miserable
feel guilty for complaining because you have more than most
feel stuck with no clear way on how to change your life
feel like you sacrificed too much of yourself, family and happiness
I had a Heart Attack
one week before my 49th birthday. Extensive emergency testing revealed there was no reason I should have had a heart attack. Then the ER cardiologist started asking me about my career. Incredulously I asked, “Why are you asking me all of this? Are you trying to tell me that stress caused my heart attack?” He said, “Yes. It’s quite possible.” Once I got home and rested for 2 weeks, guess what I did? I tried to resume life as normal. But the universe wasn’t done, because I wasn’t getting the message. Thankfully, it gave me the ability to begin again. I am so happy I did.
